Severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours expected in KZN



The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 warning for disruptive rain that has caused localized flooding in vulnerable settlements, roads, low-lying areas and bridges in the eastern part of the Eastern Cape, including the Wild coast.

The weather service has also forecast severe storms with heavy rain, damaging winds and hail leading to localized flooding in the interior of KwaZulu-Natal.

Weather forecast for Wednesday

Gauteng: Mostly cloudy and warm with showers and thunderstorms. Desirable UVB sunburn index: High.

east: Hot in the Lowveld, partly cloudy and warm with scattered rain and thundershowers, except in the Bushbuckridge area.

Limpopo: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with showers and thunderstorms in the west and south. It will be very hot in the Lowveld and the Limpopo Valley.

Northwest: Partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, but isolated in the extreme east.

Free State: Partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, but isolated in the east.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the east.

Winds along the coast will be light to moderate from northwest to west.

Western Cape: Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with a chance of showers in the southwest and scattered showers along the southern coast and near and eastern interior. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh from west to south-west, becoming stronger south north of Cape Agulhas in the evening. Desired UVB sunburn index: Very high.

Western Half of the Eastern Cape: Early in the morning in the south, if it is not cloudy and cool to warm, it becomes cloudy with scattered rain and showers and thundershowers in the north. Winds on the coast will be moderate to fresh from the southwest.

Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms, but scattered in the north and southwest. Winds on the coast will be moderate to fresh from the southwest.

KwaZulu-Natal: Looking and warm, but hot in the north. In the afternoon it will be cloudy with rain and thunder, but it will spread to the southwest. Winds along the coast will be Moderate to fresh northeast, becoming Moderate to fresh southwest from the south in the morning, spreading to Richards Bay in the evening. Desirable UVB sunburn index: High.
