Three men, who allegedly traded narcotic drugs and assaulted some Nungua residents and robbed them of valuables, have been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court.
They are Lucky Obi, a 32-year-old Nigerian national trader, Dominic Agyare, a 22-year-old unemployed person and Mohammed Fuseini, a 63-year-old mason.
They were arrested together for prohibited business related to narcotic drugs.
Also, Agyare and Fuseini are facing charges of illegal possession of narcotic drugs.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The court presided over by Mrs. Susana Eduful released the accused to Police custody to appear again on January 10, 2023.
Chief Inspector of Police Samuel Ahiabor, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainants in this case are Police Officers assigned to the Regional Police Headquarters, Accra while the accused is a resident of Nungua.
The prosecutor said that on September 8, 2022, Nungua residents petitioned the Police Administration for a group of youths in Nungua town who smoke, trade narcotic drugs, sell, attack people and rob. merchandise.
It said on December 2, 2022, a team of Police Officers was dispatched from the Accra Regional Police Headquarters to begin patrolling the area.
Prosecutors said that when the team reached Nungua Authority, they arrested Obi and Agyare closer to the public toilet where they were allegedly selling narcotics.
He said a search was conducted at Agyare and 144 packets of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were seized from him.
The prosecutor said the Police Officer proceeded to Nungua Zongo where Fuseini was also arrested in a wooden structure and a spot search conducted found 12 packs and one sachet of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics.
He said the accused was taken to the Regional Police Headquarters, Accra together with the exhibits.
Prosecutors said investigations revealed that Agyare sold the drugs to Obi.
He said Fuseini admitted the offense and apologized to the Police.
The prosecution said the exhibits were sealed in the presence of the accused and independent witnesses and forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for examination and report.
