19 ECG Transformers Stolen In 2022 In Tema
The Tema regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has lost a total of 19 transformers to criminals in one year.
The stolen transformer is worth more than GH¢1,311,000 which the electricity distribution company will have to pay to replace the stolen transformer in 2022 as the average cost of each transformer is about GHc69,000 and the bigger one is more expensive.
This crime is rampant in Afienya and Prampram Sub-districts, where criminals cut off transformers serving customers, leaving the area in darkness.
Criminals who often work in remote areas sometimes destroy transformers and replace them with ECGs.
The area mentioned to record this crime is White Estate in Afienya District.
In Prampram, the criminality occurred in the area of Kpone Secondary School, PS Global, Abbey Light House, Tsopoli Heavens Gate, Adom Estates and others.
According to the information collected by DGN Online, the criminals moved in vehicles, cut off the electricity supply to the area and removed the transformer.
Others also pushed the transformer down from the pole, damaging and removing the copper inside, leaving the case alone.
Therefore, ECG urges the public to be alert and call the fault line when they know that the power supply has been cut off, especially at night because the company is taking alternative measures to deal with the situation.
