
Police arrested three in connection with the Kasoa Mobile Money robbery
A police intelligence operation has led to the arrest of three suspected mobile money robberies in Kasoa on Tuesday, December 20.
Police investigations have so far revealed that the suspects, armed with a pump-action gun hidden in a baby diaper sack, attacked and shot a mobile money merchant, in his business center.
According to the police, the suspects were heartless, so the victim tried to run for his life, he was chased, shot from behind and robbed of an unspecified amount of money.
“The investigative and intelligence operations that have led to the arrest of the suspects, Michael Otu, alias Rider, Godfred Okine and Asaa Faisal alias Commandant, who have been described by other suspects as masterminds in the robbery and supplying the gang with weapons,” the police said in a statement Friday, December 30.
Suspect Godfred Okine said he had complained of ill-health but died on arrival at the hospital, where he was rushed for medical attention.
“The body has been kept at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
An initial investigation into the death by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) determined that the deceased suspect was handled professionally by officers from the time he was taken into custody until his death.
PPSB has also been in contact with the family of the deceased suspect as part of the investigation.
The other two suspects, Michael Otu and Asaa Faisal, were produced before the Ofaakor District Court on Thursday, December 29 and remanded in Police custody to appear in court on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
The injured victim is being treated and is in stable condition, police said.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to arrest another suspect who is on the run.
