Scattered showers and thundershowers expected in Gauteng



The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 yellow warning for winds that are causing navigational difficulties in the sea between Dassen Island and Hermanus while sand is possible on the False Bay coastal route on Sunday.

The weather service has also warned of very high fire danger conditions for most parts of Namakwa district in the Northern Cape and Western Cape.

A heat wave with persistent temperatures for Nama Khoi, Kamiesberg Municipality in the Northern Cape and Mazzikama Municipality in the Western Cape is expected until Sunday.

Sunday’s weather forecast

Gauteng: Cloudy and cool with rain and thunder. In the north it will be warm. Desirable UVB sunburn index: Low

east: Morning fog covered the escarpment, if not cloudy with scattered rain and thunder, but warm on the ground.

Limpopo: Morning fog covers the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thunderstorms, but isolated on the ground.

Northwest: Partly cloudy in the west, otherwise cloudy and cold to warm, with showers and thunderstorms, but scattered in the east.

Free State: Cloudy in the east, partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated rain and thunder, but scattered in the extreme east.

Northern Cape: Looking and very hot in the extreme west, it used to be partly cloudy and warm to heat with isolated rain and thundershows in the northeast. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh from south to southeast.

Western Cape: Cloudy with fog on the south coast in the morning, otherwise fine and hot to very hot but very hot on the west coast. The wind on the coast will be light and change to the south in the morning, if not fresh to strong from the east to the south-east. Expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme.

Western Half of the Eastern Cape: Nice and warm to hot. Winds along the coast will be light to moderate from the east.

Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy on the wild coast in the morning, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm, with rain and thunder in the northeast. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh from the northeast.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning mist covers the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool but warm in the east with rain and thunder in the west. Winds along the coast will be moderate south-east north of Richards Bay, or moderate to fresh from east to north-east. Desirable UVB sunburn index: High.
