Janelle Story, 35, told BuzzFeed News she was going to a bar crawl when she encountered a crowd on the street. By 8:30 a.m., Story, an American living in Seoul, said the area was full of people. “Even just getting out of the train station is scary,” he said via Twitter message early Sunday. “It takes 20 minutes to get out of the station.”
As he moved from bar to bar near the Hamilton Hotel, he said the crowd was tightly packed, but nothing dangerous.
“Even though I’m uncomfortable, nothing is ‘out of control’,” he said. “We’re all just moving slowly and orderly.”
But around 10:30 a.m., Story said she began to panic about the situation as she shot footage of the scene, which she posted to Twitter.
