MQF Heart Project | Features

During the festive season, it is very easy to get caught up in merry-making and not oblivious to the fact that it is one of the most difficult times to be vulnerable and lonely.

One of the most difficult groups to deal with is orphans. Thankfully, there are a number of groups and individuals who give generously to orphanages at Christmas. The unanswered question is, what happens after Christmas?

This is the heart of the “MQF Heart Project”, a philanthropic effort created by the Music for Your Quality Feet (MQF) family.

The MQF event started at the peak of the pandemic in 2020, almost by coincidence. Ekow Akyeampong (formerly of Choice FM, Ghana) started broadcasting music on social media, and was joined by hundreds of music fans around the world. The show, which is held every Sunday on Zoom and YouTube, also often includes an interview segment with musicians, health professionals, and some important personalities who discuss various topical issues. It also has a strong emphasis on philanthropy. In a short period of time, the MQF team has collected and donated more than $25,000 to organizations in the US and Ghana. As Ekow says, “the MQF family has a heart ….” – hence the “MQF Heart Project.”

Each year, the MQF Heart Project selects one organization or charity to support, starting with a Holiday party and continuing with donations of books, clothing, food, and mentoring throughout the year. This year, the beneficiary of the MQF Heart Project is the Nyamedua Orphanage in Ashalley Botwe, a suburb of Accra, Ghana.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, MQF will kick off this year’s Heart Project with a Christmas party for the children in the orphanage. There will be lots of activities for children, including playtime on the castle and trampoline, reading sessions, grooming and medical screenings, with plenty of food and drink and interaction with MQF families.

MQF hopes that the children will have fun and feel loved and appreciated at the party, but more than that, the long-term goal for the year, is to help the children know that they matter. MQF’s vision is that the relationships that will be formed during the year will boost the children’s self-esteem and set them on a path to growth and ultimately lead to meaningful lives as respected members of society.

MQF would like to thank our sponsors, especially Remitly Money Transfer, and all donors for their support and take this opportunity to invite everyone to spread hope! There will be other fundraising events throughout the year, and more information will be shared via MQF’s social media pages in due course!
