Nadine Dorries is still an MP
Twenty days ago Nadine Dorries announced that she was standing down as MP for Mid Bedfordshire with “immediate effect”. He still hasn’t sent his resignation.
The bookies open the betting market on the election and the same amount of money has been bet.
The big issue of course is that he hopes to be appointed to the House of Lords as part of Boris Johnson’s resignation honors list. Unfortunately for the Dorries, the peer committee that advises on the matter is reportedly opposed to the move and Sunak has made it clear that he will not interfere.
Meanwhile, the LD hopefuls to take the seat have been campaigning hard and yesterday I got a fundraising post from Ed Davey. In normal times I would respond but now I don’t see the point. The constituency is almost a mile or so from where I live.
Those who have gambled on the seat should get their money back, but when? Smarkets explains that “If there is no by-election in Mid Bedfordshire by the end of 2023, this market will be invalid.”
