A Manhattan grand jury reportedly won’t decide until at least next week whether to charge former President Donald Trump with a felony in connection with payments made by his friend to a porn actress before the 2016 election.
Although Trump suggested he would be arrested this week, a grand jury convened by the Manhattan district attorney’s office indicated Thursday that they will not meet about the case for the rest of the week, multiple outlets reported.
The potential charges are linked to $130,000 Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, made in 2016 for Stormy Daniels, who he says had an affair with Trump a decade ago. Cohen claimed that he had paid at the behest of Trump, who paid him back. Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges related to the payment and has met with a grand jury several times.
A grand jury was scheduled to convene on Wednesday but Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg told them to stay home, though it’s still unclear why the decision was made.
On Saturday, Trump called on his supporters to protest his arrest.
“PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK” Trump wrote on his social media website, Truth Social.
