“They are more, including the Jubilee Building, the Supreme Court building, Parliament,” he said on TV3, Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor stated that ECG itself is to blame for the institution’s debt.
He also blamed the electricity distribution company which had previously faced pressure from government institutions to recover its debts.
Dr. Donkor said about the causes of ECG debt that “This is a problem of attitude. Many government institutions think that there is one central government and there may be debt settlement… there used to be an agency settlement arrangement but that is no longer there.
“ECG is partly to blame, before it succumbed to all kinds of pressure from government institutions. When I was the Minister of Power we put the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance in prepayment, if you put people in prepayment they can’ not collect debt unless there is a mistake, it is a challenge .”
ECG has also cut houses and industries due to debt.
