Hugh Grant had at least one person in the corner amid the backlash over the awkward AF interview with him Ashley Graham!
For those who don’t know, the Notting Hill star has a cringe-worthy interview with a 35-year-old model during ABC‘s Oscar pre-show on Sunday. Hugh gave some brief responses to her questions, basically giving her very little to work with, and then rolled his eyes at Ashley when the conversation was over!
Although many people thought the 62-year-old actor was rude to Ashley, his longtime friend and ex. Music and Lyrics co-star Drew Barrymore see it as Hugh’s classic “grumpy” self. When talking about how Hugh said “her singing is just horrendous” in a video interview Autocomplete WIRED interview, the 48-year-old actress came to the defense through a red carpet interview. She said on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show:
“If you know Hugh, that’s the way he loves you. It’s funny because there’s something like him and Ashley Graham on the red carpet and people are like ‘Oh he’s a curmudgeon and he’s dumped,’ and I’m like ‘No, it’s Hugh Grant. ‘

At Never Kissed stars continue:
“You think you’ve got this great movie star and what you get is grumpy Hugh. Then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh. When he talks, I tell you, he’s funny. He doesn’t mean anything negative about it. People who found Ashley Graham on the carpet is the real Hugh.
Well… We don’t know if that’s a good thing. Drew then notes that it even took her a “second” to get used to Hugh’s personality and behavior before growing to “love” him:
“Probably like Ashley Graham on the carpet, like, ‘who do I want?’ And then I was like, oh, no, I love you. I want to love you. You won’t let me love you. When I got to know him, I was like, I love you. I love you for the real you. He’s a funny and good person. .”

As for her response to Hugh calling her singing “terrible?” Drew also shared a funny video on Instagram himself with a hairbrush in hand as he sang Way Back to Love – a song written by his character Music and Lyrics. Watch (below):
