Police in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria, have confirmed the kidnapping of a Deputy Governor candidate Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the state, Agbor Onyi.
The police spokesperson in Cross River, Irene Ugbo, told journalists in Calabar that Mr. Onyi and three others were abducted along the Calabar-Ogoja road.
He said that among those abducted were an Assistant Inspector of Immigration, To install Imojara Imojara.
Ms Ugbo, the superintendent of police, said four people were traveling north of Cross River for the Saturday election when they were abducted on Thursday afternoon.
“The victim was traveling in a Toyota Corolla when the kidnappers stopped the vehicle and took it to the forest.
“One of the occupants, Mrs. Sandara Egbung, is the wife of Governor Ben Ayade’s aide,” the police spokesperson said.
Ms Ugbo said the police were working to secure his release.
“The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Election has ordered drastic action. It is being worked on. I hope and pray that before Saturday, everything will be fine,” he said.

A source who did not want to be named in the report said the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N60 million, which was later reduced to N40 million.
