Sometimes I wonder if having a Prime Minister and Home Secretary of immigrant origin is a big reason why the government feels the need to take on such a high profile as it appears to be trying to control numbers. It’s as if they feel they need to be tougher in that area.
Whether this is an issue that will win or lose the election and making a lot of developments now opens up the issue if things don’t go as expected.
The latest Ipsos Issues Index as seen above has only 12% of those polled saying they see immigration as one of the most important issues facing the UK today.
The election will be won or lost on the economy and the NHS. Immigration has almost nothing to do with it. Sunak has got the priorities wrong.
