A credible Intelligence operation, the Commandant General of the Special Security Intelligence Force and the Nigerian Civil Defense Corps (CG’s SIS) has arrested members of a notorious counterfeit dollar and Naira syndicate operating in Plateau, Nasarawa, Bauchi and Gombe regions.
The Commandant General, NSCDC, associate professor Ahmed Audi, stated this through a communique in Abuja.
He said two syndicates that specialize in the production and distribution of fake US Dollars, (USD), and new Naira notes for circulation to the public, were arrested by the special intelligence squad of the agency for those involved in offenses including criminal conspiracy, cheating, Get. By Trick, (OBT), and production/distribution of counterfeit US Dollars (USD) and new Naira notes
One of the arrested group consisting of four male adults was caught in possession of sixty four thousand, eight hundred US dollars, ($64,800), and four hundred and seventy five thousand naira (N475,000), while fake notes. of N1.5m was also seized from a second group consisting of five male adults
Members whose names are listed as Dantala Omale, ‘M’, 30yrs, Plateau State, Musa Abdullahi, ‘M’ 24yrs, Plateau state, Audu Abdulazeez, ‘M’, 56yrs, Gombe State, Umar Hassan ‘M’, 46yrs, Plateau state tall and Mahammadu Badaru Yakubu ‘M’ 30 years old, Nasarawa State.
According to the statement, “The arrest was made when one Dantala Omale was drawn to Nasarawa from Plateau state and picked up by the squad on February 22, 2023, with a fake new naira note of N412,000.
“The arrested suspect confessed to obtaining a fake note from Musa Abdullahi, Also known as, (AKA), Baballe which led to the arrest of Abdullahi on February 22, 2023 in Namu area of Quanpan LGA in Plateau state in possession of N49, 650 naira old.
“After thorough investigation, Abdullahi admitted that he used to get supply of counterfeit currency from Audu Abdulazeez, AKA Dan-Gombe, who was arrested by the squad on March 3, 2023, at the Plateau Express service motor park in Jos, Plateau State, at about 11:20 a.m. redesigned fake N350,000 Naira note.
As the investigation by the squad continued, all the members of the syndicate were finally arrested when Abdulazeez confessed to giving one Umar Hassan a fake note.
When he was arrested, Hassan was found to be in possession of N20,500.
The statement revealed that Hassan admitted his involvement in the crime and that he regularly transacted with Mohammadu Badaru Yakubu, who was also arrested near the old CBN office in Lafia town, at about 3:10pm on March 5, 2023, with fake N2000. of the new Naira note.
Another syndicate busted by the NSCDC team was caught with $64,800 and N475,000.
They include Jonathan Dakogol, Abbas Ibrahim, Isa Ukashatu and Aminu Isa.
The men were arrested with counterfeit $64,800 and N475,000 in Akurba of Lafia Local Government Area, (LGA), in Nasarawa State after they were drawn to send money to clients.
After his arrest, Dakogol volunteered and led the SIS CG operation to Kurgwi area in Quaan’Pan LGA, Plateau State, where one Aminu Isa suspected to be a herbalist was also arrested.
Isa also led the Squad for the arrest of one 62-year-old Abbas Ibrahim in Quaan’Pan LGA, Plateau State who has collected $30,000 in counterfeit US Dollars from people.
All the suspects at the point of arrest were found to be in possession of counterfeit money and newly redesigned Naira notes from denominations of N500 to N1000 and have also admitted to being involved in the business for over five years.
In another development, the Commanding General has offered to pay the hospital bill of one of the personnel of the Lagos state command, Ibrahim Adam, who was involved in a fatal accident in Giri, in the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT).
While on a visit to check the health status of the personnel affected by the accident, Audi ordered that Adam who was billed for surgery, attended without delay.
Underscoring his commitment to the welfare of personnel, the CG directed the Head of the Health and Medical Services unit of the NSCDC, Dr. Oba Jude to monitor and coordinate the care of the victims, to ensure that the necessary attention is given to the officers who were diagnosed with spinal cord injuries with multiple fractures.
Five others involved in the accident have been discharged after significant health improvements
According to the statement, Adam suffered a spinal cord injury and multiple fractures.
