Seven SEC women’s teams earn bids to March Madness

Seven SEC teams earned bids to the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and an additional four have received bids to the 2023 WNIT. This is the fourth time the league’s 11 women’s basketball teams have made the postseason.

The SEC is the first league to have seven teams invited to the NCAA Tournament and has earned this honor 14 times (1986, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2013, 2018, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014 , 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2018, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2018, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2018, 2014, 2014, 2018, 2014, 2013, 2014, 2014 , 2014, 2014, 2014, 1995, , 2023). In the NCAA Tournament, South Carolina became the No. 1 seed for the seventh time after earning spots in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tennessee continued its streak of appearances, participating in all 41 Women’s NCAA Division I Basketball Championships since its inception in 1982, the only team to do so.
