A must-see moment! The stars shined in Hollywood as celebrity A-listers arrived at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday, March 12 – and the fun continued into the night.
host Jimmy Kimmel set the tone in the history of the 95th annual Academy Awards with an opening monologue peppered with a trademark sense of humor. Comedian, 55, does not shy away from joking about Will Smithwho famously rocked the Oscars 2022 when he slapped the presenter Chris Rock to dig up his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“We have nominations from every corner of Dublin,” Kimmel said. “Five Irish actors are nominated tonight. That means the chances of another fight on stage just go up.
Elsewhere in the speech, the talk show host stated that the Academy took last year’s surprise attack very seriously.

“If someone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and be allowed to give a 19-minute speech. But seriously, the Academy has a crisis team,” Kimmel said, pointing out how Smith, 54 year, get the Best Actor Oscar in 2022 for King Richard after the attack on the stage. “If something unpredictable or violent happens during the show, sit there and do nothing. Maybe even hug the attacker.” (At Wild Wild West the actor began to apologize for his actions. Smith was also banned from all Academy events for 10 years and is no longer a member of the Academy’s Museum of Motion Pictures.)
At Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host quipped: “And if someone gets mad at the joke and decides you want to jiggy with it – it won’t be easy.” He then pointed to the actors Michael B. Jordanwho is known for his role as a boxer in Creed, Andrew Garfieldwho has played Spider-Man, and Michelle Yeohwho is famous for being a star in the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is an audience member who will have your back. (Later in the evening, Yeoh, 60, won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere Everything together.)
Kimmel playfully added, “No bullshit tonight. We don’t have time for shenanigans.
When the awards show took place, the players from Everything Everywhere Everything together quickly won two major categories back-to-back. To Huy Quan cried while receiving the award for Best Supporting Actor.
“Mom, I just won an Oscar!” 51-year-old actor began to die speech. “They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I can’t believe this is happening to me. This — this — the American dream!”
Jamie Lee Curtis was also surprised when she won Best Supporting Actress for the drama 60 years after her late mother, Janet Leigh, was nominated for an Oscar in the same category. His late father, Tony Curtis, was also nominated for an Academy Award during his career, but neither of his parents won.
