The row that took place at the BBC is very familiar territory for me because at Broadcasting House I worked as a news editor in the early years of Thatcher’s government. At that time I was also very active in the National Union of Journalists and was the Chapel Father (head of the union branch) at Broadcasting House.
I then became head of corporate PR for the BBC.
Unless Gary Lineker can be restored to his first role this morning, there is a strong chance of industrial action. Once that threshold is crossed, it becomes more difficult to find a resolution.
I can’t see Lineker resigning even if a form of words can be found that allows this affair to be closed.
