The Inspector General of Police (I-,G), Mr. Alkali Baba, has presented a N16 billion check to the families of policemen who died on active service in Kogi.

The IG made the presentation through the Kogi Commissioner of Police, Akeem Yusuf, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration: DCP Abel Audu at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported in Lokoja that a check of N16 billion was given to the relatives of 28 Policemen who died in active service in the country.

Baba explained, “this gesture is part of the IGP’s “Group Life Assurance Scheme” and “Family Welfare Insurance” aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased Police Officers.

“This is also to encourage other Officers who are actively serving the nation, who will not forget their patriotism and service.

“For us as a force, the loss of personnel who died is tragic and painful, but we all have to bear it because God knows why,” he said.

He, however, urged the beneficiaries not to misuse the funds but should strive to use them wisely for the welfare of their families.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. S. John, thanked the IGP for the gesture and promised to put the money to good use for the benefit of her family.
