Former President Donald Trump is releasing his second book since leaving the White House in disgrace, a $99 edition that reprints personal letters sent by celebrities and politicians over the past 40 years.
“Letters To Trump” will feature correspondence for reality TV personality-turned-Republican firebrand from former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon; Trump’s 2016 Democratic rival Hillary Clinton; talk show legend Oprah Winfrey; Princess Diana; Russian President Vladimir Putin; former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro; North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and others.
Trump’s own comments appear next to each note.
The publication has questioned who owns the copyright to the letter and whether the publisher Winning Team Publishing, created by Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr., has permission to reprint it.
A spokesperson for Winning Team Publishing told Newsweek on Thursday there was a “lack of copyright protection” issue with letters sent by public officials at the time. He had “express or implied consent” to publish the letter written by a private individual, the representative added.
According to Axios, Winfrey wrote in her letter that she was “crying” from Trump’s praise in a circa 2000 book about wanting him, or “someone like him,” as his running mate if he ran for the White House. “It’s a good thing we don’t run for office,” she said. “What a TEAM!”
“Sadly, once I announced that I was President, he never spoke to me again,” Trump commented on the entry.
The book is scheduled to be released on April 25 and follows the 2021 coffee table photo book “Our Journey Together” featuring images from Trump’s sole term in office.
The “original signed bookplate edition” of the new book is advertised for $399.
