The Advanced Science Research Group (IASRG) of Summit University, Offa, in collaboration with Dr. Cynthia Kusin Okoro-Shekwaga, has won the International Academic Pump-priming Fund by the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Leeds, to explore opportunities in biomethane production. for clean cooking using organic waste sources available in Nigeria.

Speaking at the virtual kick-off meeting on February 23, the Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu, expressed his excitement at the prospect of research grants and welcomed the partnership with appreciation to the University of Leeds for extending a collaborative hand to SUN, Offa through the School of Civil Engineering International Academic Pump-priming Fund.

He assured the Principal Investigator, Dr. Okoro-Shekwaga, of Summit University’s determination to seize the rare opportunity presented to it to exceed the expected results of the project. This, he believes, will not only increase the confidence of UK-based Institutions in Summit University but will also create greater room for more exciting collaborations.

Also, Dr. Okoro-Shekwaga expressed his delight at the partnership with Summit University, Offa. The excitement, he said, arose from the Institution’s consistent online presence, which attracted the attention of local academics and international educational and research institutions. He singled out the updates he received at Summit University from his LinkedIn page as one of the main factors that encouraged him to initiate the invitation.

Dr. Okoro-Shekwaga, who is currently also leading similar studies for Uganda (East Africa) and Brazil (South America) through the World University Research Network Development Fund, expressed his optimism to make useful explorations in the field of energy production from organics. waste and envisaged other collaborative research activities with Summit University, Offa in the nearest future.
