Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has insisted that former President John Dramani Mahama return all the ex-gratia he was paid if he wants to waive his pension benefits as promised.
Speak in NEAT FM morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’, lawyer Martin Kpebu said he is sure Mr. Mahama will doubt if he refuses to return whether he has benefited from and is now proposing to scrap if he becomes President again.
“Until he returns all ex-gratia, he cannot be trusted to be President again,” to host Kwesi Aboagye.
The comments from Kpebu’s lawyer came after the former President said that he is not in a position now to recover the pension benefits he has received because he has no other source of income as a ‘pensioner’.
“I have spent my money and now I am a pensioner, from where am I going to get the money to pay it back?” I am unemployed but they say bring you to show that you have good faith, I have no source of income, and you say I should not work.
“They say the President should not hold office of profit, so you give it to me, I spend it and then you come and say I have to return it, where am I going to return it?” Mr. Mahama cried.
But Kpebu’s lawyer said “They [Mr Mahama] can use campaign donation money to pay back some ex-gratia. So far, they have been unreliable.
