Ghanaian midfielder Joe Aidoo joins Irish top-flight side Cork City FC

Ghanaian midfielder Joe Aidoo has completed a move to Irish Premier Division club Cork City FC, marking the latest chapter in his well-travelled professional career.

The 26-year-old joins the Leeside club ahead of the second half of the season and is expected to add experience and versatility to Barry Robson’s squad.

Aidoo began his professional career with Okwahu United in 2015 and helped the club reach the Ghana FA Cup final in 2016. He later moved to Cameroon to join Panthère Sportive in 2018 before signing for Al Hilal in the United Arab Emirates the following year.

His career has also taken him across Asia, with spells in India, where he featured for Bodoland FC, and in Nepal with Nepal Police Club and Pokhara Thunders. Most recently, he played for Saudi Arabian side Al-Sharq.

Speaking after arriving at Cork City’s training base in Bishopstown, Aidoo expressed his excitement about the move.

“I am really happy to join the club. I hope to make a big contribution to the club in the second half of the season and help the team achieve their targets,” he said.

The Ghanaian added that his versatility is one of his biggest strengths.

“I can play as an attacking or defensive midfielder. I like to get on the ball and play, but also work hard without the ball. I am looking forward to playing in front of the Cork City fans, and I hope I can deliver for them.”

Cork City manager Barry Robson believes Aidoo will provide quality and experience in midfield.

“Joe is a versatile and energetic midfielder who has an eye for a pass. At 26, he’s another experienced player who has plenty of games under his belt,” Robson said.

“He has been working very hard while waiting for the paperwork to come through, so we are looking forward to getting him in to train with the lads now that he has arrived. We are very pleased to have him on board and look forward to working with him.”

Aidoo will now be aiming to make an immediate impact as Cork City look to achieve their objectives during the remainder of the campaign.
