
“The idea that bloggers who criticize politicians should register with the government is insane,” Gingrich tweeted.
“It’s a shame that Republican state legislators in Florida introduced a bill to that effect. They should withdraw it immediately.
Brodeur’s proposed bill also received criticism from Clay Calvert, professor emeritus of law at the University of Florida who called it “very problematic.”
“It is similar to requiring bloggers to register, and it is a form of license. One of the reasons we have the First Amendment is that it gives us freedom of the press, and freedom from government control,” Calvert told Newsweek.
