Chef Lentswe Bhengu-Mafoko, who has appeared on several TV cooking shows including Great South African Bake Off, KFC Taste the Kitchen, Cheeky Palate, Celeb Mystery Box with Chef Nti and Express will be buried on Wednesday March 8.
In a statement released late Friday, family spokesperson, Buyi Mafoko announced that memorial services for the beloved celebrity chef will be held in Johannesburg and Durban before the funeral.
The family also thanked everyone for sharing their sentiments and fond memories of Lentswe.
“We have received condolences from friends, industry colleagues, and corporate partners, both local and international. Thank you for sharing your sentiments about how Lentswe touched us all,” the statement said.
The family would also like to thank those who have donated.
“The family has also shown generosity and many requests for donations. We welcome this movement,” he said, showing the details of the bank where contributions can be made.

Funeral and memorial details for Chef Lentswe:
- A memorial service in Johannesburg will be held on Monday 6 March at Every Nation Church in Rosebank from 1pm.
- A memorial service in Durban will be held on Tuesday 7 March at Durban High School from 4pm and will be hosted by DHS Old Boys.
- A second memorial service in Durban will also take place on Tuesday from 5pm at The Playhouse Company, hosted by friends and industry colleagues.
- The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday 8 March at the Amanzimtoti Civic Center Hall from 10:30am.
The family is inviting fans and friends to attend one of the services, which will also be broadcast live.
Cause of death
A statement issued by the family of Chef Lentswe on March 1 said he died after succumbing to a short illness.
“Lentswe suffered a short illness and passed away on the night of February 28, 2023 at the Sandton Medi-Clinic,” the statement read.
