Yunus Musah left out of USA squad for World Cup 2026
Midfielder Yunus Musah has been excluded from the United States squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the release of the team’s final 26-man list.
The 23-year-old, who was born in New York to Ghanaian parents in 2002, had previously represented the United States at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Musah’s omission has emerged as one of the biggest talking points surrounding Mauricio Pochettino’s final squad selection ahead of the tournament.
The versatile midfielder spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Atalanta from AC Milan.
Although he struggled with injuries during the season, Musah still managed to make 26 appearances across Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.
During that period, he contributed one goal and one assist while continuing to feature regularly whenever fit.
Despite his experience and previous importance to the national team, the midfielder was ultimately left out of the final USMNT World Cup squad.
Musah is not the only player to miss out on selection, with midfielders Diego Luna and Tanner Tessmann also absent from the final list.
Among the headline names in the squad are goalkeeper Matt Turner, defender Miles Robinson, midfielders Gio Reyna and Weston McKennie, as well as attackers Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic.
