Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has handed over the reconstructed Kumasi Central Mosque to the Mosque committee after it was commissioned on Friday amid excitement.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and dignitaries including Ministers, MPs, Diplomatic Corps Members, regional Imams, Zongo Chiefs as well as top Muslims and Christian Scholars.
Enthusiastic Muslim communities from the Ashanti Region and beyond, came in large numbers to show their appreciation to Dr.
The mosque was officially commissioned by the Vice President and the Asantehene during Friday prayers.
Soon after opening to the public, the mosque with a capacity of 7000 was filled to capacity with many others praying outside.
When people entered the mosque, some were seen crying with joy and marveling at the beauty of the mosque.
GLORY TO GOD
At the ceremony, Vice President Bawumia said he was committed to the project “by the will of God” and express gratitude to God who has given me the strength and will to be able to do it on my own.
“I would like to express my gratitude to God Almighty who has given me guidance, guidance, and commitment to be able to carry out this great project. I was touched by God SWT when I came to the mosque in 2020 and realized that it needed urgent attention. “
Dr. AS Bawumia noted that the Kumasi Central Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the country, reflects his vision “our ancestors” and expressed his happiness at the transformation of the mosque into a modern building, befitting Kumasi’s status as a famous city.
ASANTEMAN’S COOPERATION WITH THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY
While acknowledging the role of the founders of the Kumasi Central Mosque, Vice President Bawumia also commended the Manhyia Palace and the Asanteman for the peaceful coexistence and cooperation between the Asanteman and the Muslim community in building the first Kumasi Central Mosque.
“As a well captured history, Manhyia Palace played an important role in the first Kumasi Central Mosque during the reign of Prince Agyemang Prempeh II,” he said. Dr. AS Bawumia said.
“This clearly underlines the extent of the relationship between the Asanteman and the Muslim community, and the level of support and cooperation, especially that offered by the Manhyia Palace.”
“The Asante Kingdom, before the reign of Otumfuo Sir Agyemang Prempeh, is documented to have cooperated with the Muslims in the Kingdom.
“The presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II today, shows the premium of the Asantehene and the Asante Kingdom’s place in historical relations.”

A CALL FOR UNITY WITH OUR GOD
While urging Muslims to continue using mosques as a point of convergence not only for prayer but also for community integration, he called for greater tolerance and cooperation between Muslims and their Christian neighbors.
“This is our beautiful Ghana, where we are patient, respect and support each other as one people. , which makes our country dear.”
TEPOK DR. BAWUMIA
The King, His Majesty Osei Tutu II praised Dr. Bawumia because of the gifts that have been given not only to Muslims but to all Asanteman.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II added that Dr. Bawumia, as a responsible son, had done what he had to do and as a father, he couldn’t be more grateful.
He called on the Zongo Community to take good care of the mosque and maintain it in good condition.
