Mahama Promises 60 Ministers
Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to reduce the number of ministers to at least 60 ministers and deputies if he is re-elected president in the 2024 general elections.
Furthermore, Mr. Mahama promised to investigate the expenditure of Covid-19 funds and ensure accountability of all public funds.
“I will assemble and operate the leanest but most efficient government in our four republics. We will reduce, significantly, the size of government. As I announced in the Ghana We Want address at UPSA last year, I will form a government of less than sixty ( 60) ministers and deputy ministers of state,” the former President promised when launching the campaign at the Cedi auditorium at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho in the Volta Region.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for Ghanaians to accept the appropriate responsibility from those elected to political office. This responsibility can only be achieved by a new party in government. I promise Ghanaians, I will investigate how public funds are spent and including the Covid-19 Audit and findings from the Auditor General’s reports over the years.
“We must clean the Augean cage and get rid of dirt and corruption. Anti-corruption will be given unlimited space to do its work. The days of the well-known ‘clearing agent’ will end for good. But to ensure efficiency and professionalism in this effort, state institutions will be given the power to be independent in their work. State companies will not be a train for the political apparatus.
According to Mr. Mahama, the failure of the Akufo-Addo government did not please him.
For Mr. Mahama, it was never his wish that his political opponents would fail. He said that Ghana’s vision would evolve regardless of who is in power.
