Lionel Messi gifted his Argentina teammates and staff with gold iPhones after their World Cup success and spent £175,000 on 35 individual devices.
Messi masterminded the World Cup win in December when his sensational goal in Qatar guided Argentina through a series of tough ties before beating France on penalties in the final.
The Argentina captain wanted to give his teammates a personal memento to remember their success and decided a personalized 24-karat gold smartphone was the way to go.
The PSG star sent mobiles to the Paris department at the weekend and will hand them to a lucky person who will receive a nice new upgrade for their current handset.
iDesign Gold’s CEO, Ben Lyons, explained how Messi approached him about designing a special gift after winning the Middle East.
“Lionel is not just a Goat but he is one of iDesigns Gold’s most loyal customers and was in touch with us a few months after the World Cup final,” he told The Sun.
‘They said they wanted a special gift for all the players and staff to celebrate their incredible victory, but didn’t want the usual gift of a watch.
