Captain Sandy Yawn had fired not one but two interior crew members while he was charging for Captain Lee Rosbach in season 10 of Below Deck.
It seems that no one is safe from the chopping block as Sandy tells us that she almost added to the main stew Fraser Olender to the list he dearly departed St. David staff.
Captain Sandy claimed he saw Fraser struggling and “scared” in his first leadership role and wasn’t sure if he had the gumption to carry the team into the season.
“There is a moment [where I considered firing him]. Absolutely. Because listening to thin walls and [it is important to not] jump on that bandwagon. Change that narrative. That’s your role as the boss here,” Captain Sandy recently told Us Weekly. “You are responsible for your team. So, I didn’t go there [interior] team members [with my issues]. I went to the main boil and said, ‘This is not happening. You hired someone. Fix.'”
That does not say Below Deck Mediterranean the captain will not help Fraser. According to Sandy, just ask for help.
“Like, if you need help, ask me. But until now, I stay out of it. I will only help if I see that the client is suffering in the service. If I see something wrong or there is disharmony in my eyes – then I come in,” Captain Sandy told the outlet.
Captain Sandy finally confronts Fraser about what he thinks is his inability to lead the interior crew, going so far as to call Fraser a “cancer” on the ship.
The comment struck a chord with Fraser who, like Captain Sandy, had a personal connection to the devastating disease. Looking back, Captain Sandy said he regretted his choice of words.
“I have cancer, and I’m going to say this — I should have chosen different words,” Sandy said. “I have been a captain for many years [and] that’s the term we use. Become [in terms of] develop, I will change the terminology for sure. [It was a] wrong choice of words.”
Fraser previously responded to Captain Sandy’s criticism and claimed he had never felt “pure anger” or “more hurt by a captain in [his] all life.”
However, the couple seems to have patched up their relationship Below Deck filming wrapped.
“[Captain Sandy] taught me a lot about myself and I think at the end of the season [you’ll] know what I want,” Fraser said earlier.
Below Deck airs Monday nights at 8pm EST on Bravo.
