‘I want to apologise to the fans’ â?? Prince Owusu after Kotoko’s title dream dies

Asante Kotoko interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has issued a sincere apology to the club’s supporters following a humiliating 4–0 defeat to Medeama that officially ended any hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League title.

The heavy loss at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday dropped Kotoko from fourth to sixth place in the standings, with the coach finally admitting that the championship is now out of reach.

“I want to apologise to the fans. It was a bad day at the office; it didn’t go the way we wanted it. Yes, I think this one is very deep. To come back and win this league is impossible,” Owusu said at his post-match press conference.

The apology marks a stark change in tone from the interim coach, who had insisted in previous weeks that the title race was still alive despite a string of poor results. However, the 4–0 thrashing in Tarkwa proved the final blow.

Owusu also appeared to suggest that match officials played a role in the defeat, hinting that decisions beyond his control affected the team’s performance. Still, his immediate focus was on mending the relationship with frustrated Kotoko faithful.

With the title now realistically out of reach, the Porcupine Warriors will look to restore some pride in their remaining fixtures. But for now, the message from the coach was clear: an apology, not an excuse.
