Although the courtship stage is filled with excitement and romance, some relationship experts have stated that if the couple waits to have sex, the stronger the relationship will be after they get married.
While it is wise not to sleep with someone you really love while dating, the new General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam has observed that times can be very challenging.
He stressed that even if two people are sexually attracted, they don’t always have to sleep together when dating.
Pdt. Wengam made the comments during a personal interview on Talklife TV show Nana Yaa Konadu.
Pdt. Dr. Wengam and his wife, Mrs. Pdt. Monica Wengam, who will celebrate her 23rd wedding anniversary in November, said she was a virgin when she got married.
She claimed that she had sworn to God that she would marry a virgin before meeting her lover.
“My foundation was laid by the Assembly of God, but it also depends on my actions as a person. I promised myself that I would not engage in sexual activity until I was married. I prayed about it, I fasted, I wrote it down in the Bible, and when I met him, I said that the sex was gone, and he also said that the value of his phone,” he said on the show.
He said he first met his wife at the University of Ghana when they were both students, and their friendship eventually turned into a relationship after he proposed to her.
He claimed that when he was dating her, it was very difficult to avoid having sex with him because, in his words, “the body is not firewood.”
However, he revealed that he was able to live with his lover for a few years without trying to sleep with him because he also set some steps to guide him.
“By grace, we never had sex until we got married,” he said, adding “We never traveled anywhere and we were constantly reminded of what was in front of us. We didn’t visit ourselves after hours 8, if I go to his house, we sit in the living room or in the open space and vice versa.
According to Rev. Wengam, his family has received many blessings because he was able to marry his wife before having an intimate relationship, for which he is always grateful.
