The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei Owusu (Joewise) has said that political parties in Ghana that have representation in Parliament have failed to equip young people for leadership roles, hence the infighting in Parliament.
He expressed concern that in the next two or three Parliaments if the actions of the youth are not checked by their party, the Houses of Parliament will become boxing arenas.
Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Evelyne Tengmaa on the number of youths who have chosen the parliamentary form of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to try to get into Parliament, Mr. Osei Owusu who is one of the longest serving members of parliament said that the level of decency when entering parliament compared to the current situation is not the same.
Member of Parliament Bekwai said “Sometimes the party even goes out to recruit people who have not demonstrated that they have the intellectual and social capacity to become public officials, because they are popular and can win the seat, which seems to be just a consideration that the party gives to those who want to contest the seat.
“Those who have the responsibility to clear people before becoming representatives here do nothing. Unfortunately, it seems to me that those who are rude in their choice of language, who are rude in their attitude towards the enemy and sometimes internal enemies, and who can make the most catchy comments about other people are becoming more popular and similar. are being put in front.
“The level of civility I saw when I was involved [Parliament] and what I observed today, there is a big difference. If you ask me, it’s a bad shadow of a young man coming into the room. I fear that if it is not curbed now, in the next two or three Parliaments we will not have a parliament, we will have a boxing ring.
