#Nigeriadecides2023: INEC Chairman Receives Results Of 14 States, Resumes Collation Today | Politics

The results of some other states have been announced by the appropriate INEC officials in those states but have not been presented to Mr. Yakubu in Abuja.

After receiving the results from 14 states, INEC Chairman and Returning Officer for the presidential election, Mahmood Yakubu, said on Monday afternoon that the collection of results will continue today until 10 GMT.

Mr. Yakubu received the Ekiti Results on Sunday. On Monday, he received the results of Kwara, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Yobe, Enugu, Lagos, Gombe, Jigawa, Adamawa, Katsina and Nasarawa states.

However, there are no other state collations officials; therefore, Mr. Yakubu said the collation will be closed for the day and continue on Tuesday when the other state results will come.

So far, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, has won in six states; Jigawa, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Kwara, and Ekiti states.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is leading in five states; Katsina, Adamawa, Gombe, Yobe and Osun.

Meanwhile, the Labor Party (LP) Candidate, Peter Obi, has won in Nasarawa, Lagos and Enugu.

The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has yet to win any of the states presented to the INEC Chairman on Tuesday.

The results of some other states have been announced by the appropriate INEC officials in those states but have not been presented to Mr. Yakubu in Abuja.

PDP, LP do not agree

Earlier during the collection of results, PDP and LP agents walked out of the collection center in protest over the failure of INEC to upload all the results of the polling units before the collection of results resumed.

Both parties stated that the election law states that all results must be uploaded to the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV) prior to collection.

But the INEC Chairman insisted that the process could continue even if the results were not uploaded.

Less than 60 percent of result sheets across Nigeria had been uploaded by Monday afternoon.

INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education, Festus Okoye, on Sunday, attributed the failure to upload the results to a technical issue.

The INEC chairman, however, said he would talk about the uploading of the results today.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the PDP accused INEC of announcing compromised results.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, demanded that INEC post the results immediately “to the INEC Server/Website as provided in section 68 of the 2022 Electoral Act.”

Also on Friday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged fraud in the process of collating results. He said the failure of BVAS to upload results from polling units on the election results portal showed the process was manipulated. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the controversy.

In a swift response, the APC campaign council accused Mr. Obasajo of calling for a military coup in Nigeria. The council said Mr Obasanjo had no evidence of alleged fraud and was not a neutral arbiter supporting Mr Obi of the Labor Party in the presidential election.
