The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Traditional Ruler of Kusaug Area, Naba Abugrago Azoka II, have renewed their commitment to peacefully resolve the security issue in Bawku.
In a meeting at Jubilee House last Friday, President Akufo-Addo said ensuring peace in Bawku remains a priority for the government.
Therefore, the relevant authorities will continue to work with the Kusaug Traditional Authority to achieve this goal, he said.
The President further affirmed the assurance that any development that may undermine the peace and security of the region will be done promptly in accordance with the laws of the land.
President Akufo-Addo expressed his appreciation to Bawku Naba for the leadership he has shown in the current impasse and assured of the government’s unwavering commitment to ensure lasting peace in Bawku region.

The meeting occurred due to the heightened tension in Bawku municipality following the enskinment of one Seidu Abagri in Nalerigu on February 15 this year as a rival Chief Bawku.
The government, however, through a statement issued by the Ministry of Information on February 15, 2023, condemned the act.
The statement assured the residents of Bawku municipality that any development that could undermine the peace and security of the area would be dealt with promptly in accordance with the laws of the State.
The Bawku area has been prominent in security discourse in recent times due to violent clashes between Mamprusi and Kusasi youths, which have left several residents dead and property damaged.
The security community has taken the problem of the Bawku area of the Upper East Region very seriously because of the possibility that the area is being exploited by terrorist elements in neighboring Burkina Faso to launch attacks in the country.
“I stand for peace”
Bawku Naba stressed his commitment to exploiting the pacific dispute resolution method to restore lasting peace to Bawku.
Pacific methods of dispute resolution include negotiation, investigation, mediation, conciliation, arbitration and judicial settlement.
Abugrago Azoka also commended the government and the various security services for their swift intervention and also their efforts to maintain peace in the area.
