Pay student loan recipients directly – NUGS informs the Student Loan Trust Fund

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) said the inability of the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) to pay out money to beneficiaries is “more worrying” because students are “at risk of not being able to write. [their] test.”

He said the beneficiaries’ inability to pay their academic fees due to non-payment of loans is a “big problem in the face of the current situation in the country.”

According to NUGS, although “the arrears of the last semester have also not been paid” but the school continues to warn students who do not pay their fees on time.

“For example, University of Business and Integrated Development (UBID-Wa). KNUST is set to write mid-semester exams from February 27, 2023. Unfortunately, many students are at risk of not being able to write the exams,” NUGS said in a statement.

This follows “several” complaints the Union says has been received after a long period of application by students.

“We, with this statement, call on the Student Loan Trust Fund and the government to quickly pay the eligible student loan applicants. [because] students risk deferment if the loan is not repaid immediately.

The National Union of Ghanaian Students has, therefore, appealed to the beneficiaries to remain calm as their concerns have been addressed.

SLTF at the time of filing this report has not responded to the issues raised by NUGS.
