Mahama Launches Fresh Attack On EC, Jean Mensa | Politics

Former President John Mahama has launched a fresh attack on the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission of Ghana accusing the Electoral Body of not giving it confidence.

According to the former President, who is lacing his boots to contest the presidential position of the NDC for the third time, the Electoral Commission is doing the bid of organizing the New Patriotic Party.

He categorically stated that “The enmity of the EC Chairman and other Commissioners for one political party is legendary”.

Interestingly, Mr. Mahama whose party (NDC) has repeatedly boycotted IPAC meetings stated that “I am sorry, I did not expect this to happen when we have an EC that has openly rejected all efforts of the National Peace Council to hosted a meeting between the Commission and the two main political parties, the NDC and the NPP.

Mr. Mahama, who is currently in Nigeria leading the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) to monitor the ongoing elections made the claim in a post on his Facebook page about Nigeria’s elections.

He pointed out that the initial engagement with the presidential candidate showed that they all have confidence in the country’s Electoral Commissioner, but the same cannot be said for the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

He claimed, “One of the things that shocked me in the pre-election mission in Nigeria for the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) is the confidence of all the candidates and parties who have written to the Independent Electoral Commission. They all testified that INEC has listened and taken their concerns on the ship.

According to him, the openness and ability of INEC to bring all the candidates on board but said that “I cannot say the same for the Electoral Commission (EC), which used to be one of the best electoral management agencies in the world. .”

Mr. Mahama further disclosed that he wants Ghana’s EC “to inspire the same level of confidence in all stakeholders.”

Here is the full statement on Facebook:

The one thing that I have learned in my pre-election mission in Nigeria for the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) is the confidence of all the candidates and parties who have written to the Independent Electoral Commission.

All of them testify that INEC has listened and taken the concerns of the board.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the Electoral Commission (EC), once one of the best election management agencies in the world.

The hostility of the EC Chairman and other Commissioners to one political party is legendary.

Do I wish our own EC could inspire the same level of confidence in all stakeholders.

Unfortunately, I do not expect this to happen when we have an EC that blatantly spurned all efforts by the National Peace Council to host a meeting between the Commission and the two main political parties, NDC and NPP.
