We’re all just human beings fighting the same battles

Vladimir Putin has my vote. Yes, that morning spurt of coffee straight out of the nose. I’m not a Commie, but hell, the guy is right when he talks about “Western stupidity”.

During his state of the nation address, Putin described the West’s insanity as follows: “The Anglican Church believes in a gender-neutral God.

“May God forgive him because he doesn’t know what he’s doing.”

Ah, you, like me, missed that part. The Church of England earlier this month announced it was considering an alternative to referring to God as “he” after priests asked to be allowed to use the gender-neutral term.

As one British newspaper said, “Now it is not clear what will replace the term Our Father in the Lord’s Prayer, which is the Christian prayer that Jesus Christ commanded his followers.”

Listen to one of the pastors, Dr. Ian Paul, who said that any change would show the abandonment of the Church’s own teaching: “The fact that God is ‘Father’ cannot be replaced by ‘Mother’ without changing the meaning, and neither can gender. -neutralized for ‘Mother’.”

So, I support Putin: Reverend Paul will be out in the cold – and the West is stupid. Like us.

We never heard the last of Arch when he introduced the simple word Ubuntu into the South African vernacular.

I know you think Rainbow Nation, but the “theology” of Ubuntu Tutu made the epilogue of the interim constitution of SA in 1993: “There is a need for understanding but not for revenge, there is a need for reparation but not for revenge, there is a need for Ubuntu but not for victims.

But we, years later, still can’t see each other. We are debating who Africans really are – do they all come from this soil? Our division is still great. Our lack of acceptance is even greater.

I watched two men fight in a parking lot this week, hurling insults… and when they pulled off, black and white middle fingers flew through the air. And I want to say to them: let’s not join the wild, wild West arguing about Father and Mother.

Because, like Tutu, we must see that we are all just human beings who are at war. Ubuntu. “I am because of us.” We are brothers.
