Rayo Vallecano coach cautiously optimistic on Ghanaian Defender Abdul Mumin’s ACL recovery
Rayo Vallecano coach Ãñigo Pérez has provided an update on the recovery of Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin, who has been sidelined with an ACL injury since early 2025. ‘
The manager expressed optimism about the player’s progress but stressed the importance of patience and a full recovery.
“He’s close, but we mustn’t rush,” Pérez stated, emphasising the medical team’s cautious approach. “We must prioritise his full recovery. He is a key player for us, and it is more important that he returns at 100% than that he returns quickly.”
Mumin, 26, established himself as a crucial part of Rayo’s defense in the 2024/25 season before his injury, making 24 appearances and contributing two goals and an assist. Pérez had previously hailed his performances, calling it a “sensational season” and noting the defender was “playing at a high level”.
With his current contract expiring in June 2026, the club has moved to secure his long-term future. Rayo Vallecano has reportedly opened contract talks with the defender and his representatives, offering a new three-year deal that would keep him at the club until 2029.
Pérez’s comments reflect a balancing act between eagerness to reintegrate a top performer and the necessity of ensuring the player’s long-term health and effectiveness.
