“We asked him certain questions, he answered, and I asked for permission if I could even put it out. And he gave it. I asked him specifically if he thought that the current form of the bill that the committee has worked on. , that members, sponsors also felt comfortable represented our aspirations, if you think that violates basic human rights in Ghana, and the Attorney General responded that he does not see a conflict between our bill and the Constitution in its current form.; he does not see a violation of human rights; and he actually supports the bill mentioned. As he said. The Attorney General established four areas where he thinks our bill is good news for Ghana’s criminal jurisprudence,” added Sam George.
Sam George added that the bill will be presented before the house in March 2023.
This happened after the committee of the Bill met with the Attorney General on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, and he indicated that he had no problem with the bill.
“I can see that we now have a light at the end of the tunnel. We have reached the end of the tunnel. And we will bring that report hopefully before the end of March or before this house rises and it is put before the house for floor debate. And watch this place. We are in a good place. And we will hope that you will give us all your support to pass this landmark bill, which will be the first. The Attorney General made the point that it is the first of its kind on the African continent. Nigeria has a bill that prohibits same-sex marriage . That’s all. There are no other items on our bill. So we’re excited about it,” Sam George added.
