Manchester City paid the price for failing to make the most of their first-half dominance as they were tied with RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The away side were in complete control for the first 45 minutes and got their breakthrough midway through the half when Ilkay Gundogan pounced on a mistake in defense and fed Riyad Mahrez to slot into the back of the net.

But RB Leipzig came out in the second half with more ambition and twice came close to equalizing early on through Benjamin Henrichs, who first went straight before then sweeping wide with only Ederson to beat.

The Manchester City goalkeeper was again called upon to deny Andre Silva at the near post, but the hosts were eventually rewarded for their mounting pressure when Josko Gvardiol headed in a short corner.

Janis Blaswich denied Gundogan to restore the visitors’ prime time with a reflex save from close range, but Leipzig held firm to earn a deserved draw.

City, who are looking to end their wait for their first Champions League trophy, will be looking to finish in the second leg on Tuesday, March 14.
