The Court of Appeal, Awka, has confirmed Victor Umeh as the candidate of Labor Party (LP) for Anambra Central District, Anambra State.
The court in the judgment stated that the suit alleged to be annulled by Mr. Umeh at the Federal High Court, Awka is barred by statute and has no locus standi.
Judge Olubunmi Oyewole, who read the judgment via zoom, allowed both appeals by LP and Mr. Umeh to stand.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Uche Ekwunife, the PDP senatorial candidate, sued Mr. Umeh at the Federal High Court on the grounds that he did not resign from the All Progressives Grand Alliance. , before picking up LP tickets.
The judge, Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, on January 27, granted PDP’s prayer and overruled Mr. Umeh.

LP and Mr. Umeh, through their counsel, Alex Ejesieme and Patrick Ikwetoh, defended the judgment on the ground that there was no locus standi by the respondents and prayed the court to set aside the judgment.
Reacting, Beluolisa Nwofor, Mrs Ekwunife’s counsel, said she would appeal the sentence.
