INEC begins distribution of electoral materials in Osun

NigeriaDecides2023: INEC begins in The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday began the distribution of sensitive election materials to local government areas in preparation for Saturday’s election in Osun State.

The material was moved from the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria to the local government area under heavy security.

The distribution was also monitored by representatives of political parties, journalists and observers.

Some of the distributed materials are ballot papers, and result sheets for the Presidential, Senatorial, and House of Representatives elections, among others.

Security operatives posted at the entrance of the CBN had earlier prevented journalists and other observers from inspecting the material with a directive from the CBN that no one should be allowed to enter the premises.

The situation caused confusion among observers, party agents and journalists on the spot to monitor the distribution.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mutiu Agboke, confirmed that the commission is ready for the election.

“Our sensitive materials, especially, ballot papers, and result sheets are usually in the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria. We are ready for the election. We are here to start collecting materials for transmission to these local government areas,” he said.
