Boxer, 14 others were arrested for improper waste disposal, open defecation
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has arrested Fifteen (15) persons for illegal dumping of waste and violation of CHAPTER 56 (a) and (b) of Act 851, Public Health Act (2012).
Among the offenders arrested for illegal dumping are Rebecca Barnor Owuah 46, a sanitation worker under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Sanitation Model supervised by Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Akuley Tagoe 25, a Trader.
The rest arrested for open defecation are Bright Ayala 25, a boxer with Wisdom Academy Gym in Jamestown, Suleman Yakubu 56, Scrap dealer, Robert Quartey 52, Nii Quaye Isaac 37, Driver, Abdul- Rashid Ayuba, 37 , a Carpenter, Fuseini Alhassan, 31, head porter, Ebenezer Nyarko 26, coconut seller, Asamoah Dennis, 39 unemployed, Jesse Bills 27, unemployed, Kwaku Jacob 20, Sikkens staff, Kwame Ametordzi, 30 years unemployed, Ayete unemployed Ayequye, 40 unemployed and Adu- Gyamfi Bismark 32 is a worker.
Violators who were arrested between 4:00 and 6:00 at various locations in the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra according to the Head of Environmental Health Department of the AMA, Florence Kuukyi will be dealt with. sign a bond and pay the cost of abatement or risk court action.
Touching on the issue of open defecation, he stressed that waterways and open spaces are not the place to meet the call of nature, adding that it violates the AMA’s sanitation laws.
“Totally discard it leads to contamination of water and food sources…It can also cause typhoid fever, diarrhea and cholera, so according to the law, every house must have a “comfortable place” or “toilet” and if there is one. not at home, the occupants must visit the public toilet,” he said.
He used the opportunity to call on all residents and households to maintain the household toilet facilities constructed by the assembly.
He warned that the Assembly has intensified its enforcement exercises and will not violate the council’s regulations on sanitation, and food safety.
