AKA’s last album ‘Mass Country’ a nod to SA



Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes knows what he wants from his last album Mass State and the vision for the album continues for the connection after the murder.

Team AKA, VTH, The T Effect and Sony Music Entertainment Africa decided to go ahead with the release of the album as the late rapper wanted.

New singleCompany featuring KIDDO released last Friday, and in anticipation of Mass State release this week, the creative team has continued to show wishes to release music while still alive.

AKA explains the meaning of Mass State

The studio album’s tracklist was released on Tuesday, and includes a feature from Nadia Nakai’s partner, Blxckie for the song titled Criticalalso includes Chief Yanga with the title of the song called Piano ad single which was released before heaven and Lemons for Lemonade.

In a video of the rapper in a music studio, he is seen listening to Mass Country and it’s very clear, AKA said. Mass State is for South Africa.

“It’s literally called Mass State, for the masses in the country… There is only one audience that I want is Aaa Kidul, Aaaa Kidul… And listen, we are walking music now.

AKA is referring to the country in slang terms as South Aaa is used in conversational settings. In an interview on the Hip Hop veteran podcast Silkour Remove, AKA said this album is heavily inspired by traditional local sounds.

Mass State, Maskandi, you know that kind of play on. It’s a nod to the fact that there will be a traditional South African sound in there, but also mixed with Pop, mixed with a little influence of Kwaito, Hip-Hop… you know how it goes,” he said.

Is the music released

“They [Forbes family] who chose to proceed with the release of Mass State album on February 24 as planned.

“In the past two years, Mass State has become the entire AKA world. Supa Mega continues to maintain the album release momentum and high anticipation,” the statement read, giving the reason why they decided to go ahead with the release.

He added the rapper worked hard on the album and gave it his all.

Nivo said AKA had the opportunity to agree how Mass State will be launched and marketed.
