The government will participate in the funeral of Atsu – Dr. Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has assured Ghanaians and sympathizers of the late Christian Atsu to expect a befitting burial of the former Black Stars forward.

The remains of Atsu touched down in Accra on Sunday evening at the Kotoka International Airport after he was confirmed dead a day earlier.

The player did not survive after an earthquake in Turkey about two weeks ago left him in ruins.

Speaking at the airport, Dr. Bawumia once again sent his condolences to the family as well as other parties who died while assuring the government’s involvement in the funeral.

“I want to express my condolences to everyone[Atsu’s siblings] and the whole family for this deep loss. I also send my condolences to the football community. Atsu played for the Black Stars and he was loved and we will surely miss him.

“I want to express my condolences to the Ghana Supporters Association and all Ghanaians for this loss. It is a painful loss, a very painful one.

“But as the good Lord said in the good book, that we come from Him and we will return to Him. We pray that the spirit of Christian Atsu rest in perfect peace in the arms of God and I will say that the country will join the family fully to provide a proper burial,” he said.

Atsu scored nine goals in 65 appearances for Ghana.
