The Philippine women’s soccer team lost another game in the Pinatar Cup on Saturday, but team captain Tahnai Annis believes the Philippines are on the move ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I think we’ll be a little bit comfortable because we’re not comfortable playing the game,” Annis said after the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Scotland at Arena Pinatar in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain. from this game and match now, if we have to come out and be clinical, we have to, we have to be on all the time. We really can’t afford to lapse or second guess ourselves. And I think, as time goes on, we just learn.

The Filipinas conceded in each half when Lauren Davidson produced the opener for Scotland five minutes before the break before Caroline Weir made it 2-0 from a corner near the hour mark.

But it could have been a different story had the Philippines converted their own effort, Katrina Guillou almost converted and Annis needed the final touch to score on the counterattack.

Meryll Soriano’s consolation goal in stoppage time gave coach Alen Stajcic’s side their first score of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Wales three days earlier.

The Philippines wrap up their campaign on Tuesday against Iceland, hoping that the lessons of competing against top-ranked European teams will take hold in the weeks and months ahead.

“I think as long as we continue to go in the direction we want to go, no matter how much we improve, I’m still going forward,” Annis said. “And having a lot of takeaways from every game we play will help us in the World Cup.” INQ
