Kidnapped Cape Town lawyer rescued after manhunt

The Western Cape police have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a Cape Town rescue lawyer.

The wife of a Bellville lawyer reported her husband missing on Friday when he did not return home from work.

Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said detectives were activated due to the strange circumstances surrounding the incident.

The lawyer’s office was disturbed

He said after talking with his business partner and the secretary of the missing person, the detective went to the missing lawyer’s office and found Disturbed; some items are also missing.

Swartbooi said detectives found a file on the desk that was crucial to the investigation because it provided a direct link to action.

He said the investigation team immediately launched a manhunt to find the missing lawyer.

The woman was placed at the crime scene

The team then proceeded to the woman’s house on Yale Road in Belhar, who had visited the practice the previous day.

According to Swartbooi, the woman’s husband could not provide information about his wife’s whereabouts.

“Witnesses interviewed nearby placed the woman at the crime scene when they confirmed that she was driving a white motor vehicle, believed to be the victim’s motor vehicle, with an unknown person and two people,” he said.

Following the lead in the file found on the desk in the office, Swartbooi said the search team focused on another address in Klawer.

Traumatized lawyers come to the rescue

He said relevant information was shared with SA Police Service (Saps) officers in the West Coast region.

“Police Klawer saw the vehicle at the address in the police station and entered the house that rescued the missing person who was traumatized. They then arrested and detained a man and two women on charges of kidnapping,” said Swartbooi.

He added that after being charged, the suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on charges of kidnapping.

On Friday, two police sergeants were arrested by members of the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (Ipid) on charges of kidnapping, extortion and possession of stolen goods, after allegedly demanding money from a suspect arrested in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
