Arrows come from behind to make wasteful Chiefs pay

Kaizer Chiefs squandered, squandered some good chances and lived to regret when Golden Arrows beat them 3-2 in the DStv Premiership match on Saturday afternoon.

Had Chiefs capitalized on that opportunity at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, they would not have handed the Arrows the three points.

But poor decisions up front, coupled with Arrows’ resilience, saw Chief Athur Zwane’s side lose a game they could have easily won.

The result puts the Chiefs in fifth place with 28 points. The Arrows moved into ninth place with 25 points.

The Chiefs got the start they were looking for when they took the lead just nine minutes into the game. This happened because of the constant attacks.

The goal came from a corner which was swung by Keagan Dolly and found Sifiso Hlanti who headed home.

Amakhosi went close to a second in the 27th minute when Dolly found himself with only Siyabonga Mbatha to beat.

He did well to round the advancing keeper but was unlucky to see his effort ricochet off the upright.

Christian Saile also forced a save from Mbatha in the 32nd minute with a quick turn and a shot that was saved by the Arrows keeper.

Arrows made an early tactical change in the 35th minute with Lungelo Dube coming off.

Siyabonga Khumalo took his place and stabilized the midfielder for Abafana Bes’thende and they started playing with some purpose.

The visitors came close to finding an equalizer in the 42nd minute when a brilliant attack ended with Pule Mmodi crossing the ball.

But it was intercepted by Hlanti and ricocheted off Knox Mutizwa and out for a goal kick.

But it looks like Hlanti fouled Mutizwa in the process and may be given a penalty.

Arrows changed the atmosphere in Polokwane

Arrows grabbed an equalizer on the stroke of half-time with Ntsako Makhubela completing another enterprising move.

But two minutes after the break, Chiefs hit back. A quick throw-in resulted in Ashley Du Preez setting up Mduduzi Shabalala, who then blasted into the net.

The Arrows bench was left reeling in disbelief in the 56th minute after Makhubela failed to beat Petersen from close range.

Shabalala achieved personal glory in the 66th minute when he had the option to beat a free Saile in the box.

And three minutes later, Arrows leveled again. Mutizwa was left unmarked in the area and he sliced a powerful shot past Petersen.

Mutizwa grabbed a brace and scored the brace’s winning goal with a powerful shot from inside the Amakhosi box when the Chiefs defense was caught napping in the 79th minute.

Chiefs tried to come back after this goal but they found the Arrows side determined to come out with full points.
