President Donald Trump on Sunday predicted that Zohran Mamdani would become New York City’s worst mayor if the Democratic socialist candidate is elected on Tuesday ― and took a shot at him that had nothing to do with politics.
“Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you: charismatic, breaking the old rules. What do you think about that?” CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell asked the president during “60 Minutes.”
“Well, I think I’m a much better-looking person than him, right?” the president said.
Trump slammed the rising Democratic star as a communist, and ― as he has in the past ― threatened to withhold money from the city.
“It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York. Because if you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there,” he said.
Trump, a former resident of New York, said he would vote for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he still lived there.
“I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other, but if it’s gonna be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’m gonna pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you,” he said.
Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment, lost to Mamdani in the primary but is on the ballot as an independent.
