More than two-thirds of the members of the Majority Caucus of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament have overwhelmingly thrown their weight behind the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to be the next flag bearer of the party in the 2024 general elections.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE shows that more than 102 out of 138 NPP MPs strongly believe that Dr. Bawumia is the right person to replace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if the party is to break the curse of eight years of single party rule since the beginning of the Second Republic.
Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akotombra and former Western North Deputy Minister, Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, made a cautious disclosure in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM while commenting on a survey report that made Dr. Bawumia is ahead of other contenders in the NPP. presidential race.
Alan Kyerematen’s camp has spoiled the results of the polls which gave the Vice President an overwhelming lead, in all the 16 regions of the country.
According to Mr. Djornobuah, the Vice President has all the qualities to lead the party to create a new record by breaking the eight-year cycle of two consecutive political terms of the party in the country’s political history.
“The survey we conducted is correct because the Vice President has been approved by 102 members of parliament so far. Members of parliament believe that Dr. Bawumia is the best choice to lead the party, and I have no doubt that he will win,” he said.
Member of parliament Sefwi Akontombra said that all members of parliament who have expressed their support for the Vice President will soon reveal their cloak of anonymity so that the public can know and understand.
“We will direct a press conference to announce our support as a member of parliament for the Vice President soon. Dr. Bawumia is a Vice President who has shown his majority and ability that he is the only one who can lead the NPP to eliminate the eight,” he said.
Touching the delegation, Mr. Djornobuah mentioned that about 80 percent of the delegation will vote for the Vice President.
“I know and believe that Western North, we will not let the Vice President down because it is time to repay what he has done for us. And if we want more of that development, then we must elect a Vice President,” he said.
The member of parliament stated that Dr. Bawumia is the right person to fight former President John Dramani Mahama in the Northern region, adding that “with the support of our strongholds in Ashanti, Eastern and other regions, we can eliminate eight.”
He said that the ruling NPP government has done well considering the challenges faced by countries around the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, but the government is still starting infrastructure development, encouraging social intervention programs such as. as Free Senior High School (FSHS), One District One Factory (1D1F) among others without Ghanaians experiencing a power crisis unlike the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He, however, admitted that the NPP has made some mistakes in terms of governance, but was quick to add that Ghanaians are safer in the NPP than the NDC in terms of hardships.
The declaration was made after about 40 members of parliament and the Secretary General of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, accompanied the Vice President to the burial of Lepowura Alhaji Mohammed Nuru-Deen Jawula, who was a supporter of the party.
Vice President Bawumia and his entourage traveled by bus for about two hours from Tamale to Salaga in the Savannah Region to attend the solemn ceremony.
One of the members of parliament, Kofi Okyere-Agyekum, representing Fanteakwa South in the Eastern Region confirmed that more than 100 of his colleagues have fully endorsed the Vice President to lead the party to victory in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
“We believe that it is Dr. Bawumia who can lead the NPP to ‘break the 8’ in 2024. He is a gentleman, intelligent and a competent personality who will be loved and supported by the NPP faithful so that we can maintain power in 2024. , “Mr Okyere -Agyekum, who is the Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament against the Wontumi TV and Radio Movement in Accra.
The ruling NPP worked hard to maintain power for more than eight years to destroy political parties that won and lost elections after eight years.
At least eight NPP stalwarts have so far announced their intention to contest the ruling party’s presidential primaries, which will hopefully be held before the end of the year.
